Phishing: 7 signs your employees should recognise

People remain attackers’ preferred target. The good news: most phishing attempts share recognisable signs.

The 7 warning signs

  1. A sense of urgency or a threat (“your account will be suspended”).
  2. A sender address that is slightly altered or inconsistent.
  3. Deceptive links: the displayed URL differs from the actual destination.
  4. An unusual request: a transfer, credentials, sensitive data.
  5. Spelling mistakes or awkward phrasing.
  6. An unexpected attachment, especially if it asks you to enable macros.
  7. A diverted channel: SMS, messaging apps, QR codes (quishing).
