People remain attackers’ preferred target. The good news: most phishing attempts share recognisable signs.
The 7 warning signs
- A sense of urgency or a threat (“your account will be suspended”).
- A sender address that is slightly altered or inconsistent.
- Deceptive links: the displayed URL differs from the actual destination.
- An unusual request: a transfer, credentials, sensitive data.
- Spelling mistakes or awkward phrasing.
- An unexpected attachment, especially if it asks you to enable macros.
- A diverted channel: SMS, messaging apps, QR codes (quishing).
